Multitouch organizer (General's diary)

Overview:
A 3 star Army general uses his diary to take notes in his every day meetings. When opened, the left page of his diary contains the calendar /printed schedule for the day (taken from calendar software), and the right side of the diary contains a notepad that will use throughout his meetings. He owns an Apple iPad and wants an application which will provide him an with interface similar to his diary, thus allowing him to see his schedule for the day and take notes at the same time. Such highly placed officials are detailed with information from “Bios”. A Bio is an one page description about a person’s background and relationship to current projects. This piece of information is used as a tool to remember details about people will be attending meetings.

The application developed should be able to sync with a calendar and contacts list wirelessly. The application should be able to store the notes taken and archive, index, and retrieve them based on meeting times, contact name, or other relevant queries . A method to retrieve Bios of the people in various meetings would also be helpful. This project requires an understanding of information retrieval with a focus on efficient storage and synchronization. The interface should be intuitive and have clear mappings and affordances.

Problem statement:
Develop an iPad application to take notes and display schedules that will replace the General's diary. The application must sync with an existing web-based calendar and contact list.

The team proposal should address:
  • What features will the application provide in addition to note taking and syncing with a calendar?
  • How will you handle security and confidential information?
  • How will you take advantage of the iPad's multitouch capabilities?
  • How will you display the different features given the iPad's limited screen size? Consider the use of tabs, dockable windows, etc.
