Individual Proposals

Proposal Set one due Sunday, January 23 @ 11:59 PM by email

Overview
Now that you have been introduced to the different projects, it is time to develop your set of ideas. Choose your top three projects and write a short proposal over each.

Purpose
Having each student write short proposals over their favorite projects gives everyone an equal chance to express their ideas. Forming groups after this initial process will minimize group think and expand the set of project designs.

Format
Each student will write a short proposal over their top three project ideas (for a total of three proposals). These initial proposals should be written in 12-point Arial font, single spaced, single columned, and have one inch margins. Try to keep each proposal from 0.5 -1 page in length, with the following information:
  • Which project are you interested in working on and why?
  • What is your initial idea for this project?
  • Which of the project requirements have you considered addressing?
  • What qualifications do you have that would help you on this project?
Remember that these proposals are designed to help you expand some of your initial project ideas, and that they will be considered a work in progress. After these initial proposals are returned, each student will present their best proposal to the class. Make sure that you have a strong interest in all three of your proposals because one will be chosen by the mentors and TAs for you to present.

Email all three proposals to Chris! chris_aikens (at) neo.tamu.edu
Please submit a zip file containing all three short proposals. Name this file "first_last.zip" (with your first and last name). This will help in the evaluation process.

Grading Rubric
The three individual proposals will be graded on a scale of 1 to 5, where 5 is the best. Those proposals receiving a 5 or 4 are above average, 3 is average, and proposals receiving a 2 or 1 need work to be passable. In general, each student's best proposal will be the one that contains the idea perceived to be the most unique, challenging, and practical. The individual proposals will also play a role in the team assignment process.
