Functional Prototype One

Due Tuesday, March 8

Overview
Now that your team has conducted an initial user study over your lo-fi prototype, it is time to design your first functional prototype.

Purpose
Functional prototypes are an important part of the iterative design process. Prototypes expose both good and bad features and functionality when there is still time to make corrections. They also allow you to gather feedback which can be used to further modify future designs. Demoing your team’s prototypes will also help you gain experience making presentations and answering questions.

Format
Each team will be given 20 minutes to show off the current version of their project. It is fine to have a set scenario or list of features you wish to show off, but be prepared to stray from it as questions and comments arise. Your team should discuss the highs and lows of the development process and explain what future improvements you have planned. Your instructors and fellow classmates will provide you with feedback on your design and ask you questions throughout your demo time. Demos will be more relaxed and open than final presentations, so enjoy presenting and interacting with the other groups.

Grading Rubric
You will be graded on the perceived amount of work done since your last prototype and on how well you are sticking to your project plan. Any changes in design should be justified. Remember, part of iterative design is incorporating changes and feedback. This is taken into consideration when grading your prototypes. If you show up with a great prototype, then you will receive a great grade to go with it.
